It was the year 1640. There was a rumor that there was one million dollars in a ghost ship out at sea. Captain Troy was the first to respond. He walked down the crooked alleyway to his house. After opening the door he was greeted by a cloud of dust. He had a long winding stairwell that circled all the way to his study.
In his study he had piles upon piles of maps covering his desk and the floor. He looked for the map of the Atlantic Ocean. After an hour of searching, he came upon the map. He had heard that the ghost ship was near Britain. After studying the patterns of the wind and the current, he deduced that the ship should pass through his dock very soon! He rushed to get his lantern and he called for his son Jimmy and they ran through alleyways and made winding turns but they finally made it! They didn't see the ship in the fog but Captain Troy was determined to get the loot. He was about to turn but he turned back swinging the lantern. The lantern dropped from his hand and smashed as the ship emerged from the fog. He carried Jimmy over to the ship but as soon as he got to the ship it had vanished. As it disappeared behind the fog he was yelling out in the night, calling to all that would join him on this great adventure. A few weary sailors hobbled out onto the deck of his ship and Captain Troy commanded them to steer to starboard (right) down the canal. As they made their way against the current the waves were growing rapidly! Suddenly, a large wave crashed against the side weakening the port hull. As everyone aboard tried to secure the hull another enormous wave struck the crack in the hull and the boat groaned as all of the crew got away. The second Captain Troy got to the fracture, the two halves tore apart! They attempted to patch up the ship, but to no avail. As they could only hope for the best they needed to stop so they wouldn't sink. The only choice was to run aground. Although it could easily destroy the ship it was their only chance. There was a sand bar ahead so they kept their heading straight, and they surged forward. The second they made contact everyone was just hoping, hoping that they would survive. They made it. Everyone was relieved until Captain Troy announced that he was going to call the ship with their last lantern. He swung the lantern and the ship appeared out of the fog. They began to lower the ladder but a huge wave smashed the ladder into the hull and it cracked to a state beyond any use. The only remaining option was to jump into the ship. They all made it except for the cook, who feel it and drowned. The ship was slowly getting lower but they could sail it back. Captain Troy was fair and decided that he wouldn't look for the treasure until they got back but his greed was just too much for him. He opened the treasure chest, only to be immensely disappointed. There were but a few pieces of stone in the chest. He was so surprised by this that he was driven to insanity and he fled the ship, never to be seen again. As for the sailors, the chest rewarded them with endless riches for completing the journey and being good natured and patient. A plaque was later given for their bravery and patience and finding the ghost ship. |
